Frontier Philanthropies
See the world through Frontier Philanthropists' eyes
Vibrant, innovative and impactful philanthropic practices are by no means confined to the US and Europe. Yet one could be forgiven for holding such a misapprehension: the conversation about global philanthropy often overlooks foundations established in emerging and developing markets. Not for want of goodwill or lack of engaged philanthropists: the data is simply too sparse - a problem this site seeks to address.
Through case studies, statistics and infographics, join us on a tour of "Frontier Philanthropies" - visiting fourteen family foundations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We uncover striking patterns and intriguing models that philanthropists, practitioners and scholars from the four corners of the world could learn from. No pale imitation of Western philanthropy: longstanding traditions of generosity, married with local know-how, are giving birth to new paradigms. With this, innovative and home-grown solutions to tackle developing countries' most stubborn problems are emerging.
