LESSONS LEARNT
LESSONS LEARNT
- Creating a separate legal entity for philanthropy provides clarity to a company's board, subsidiaries, employees and the wider community
- A corporate foundation could focus on what the parent company does well: in SIFCA's case, rolling out educational programmes and protecting the environment in rural communities
- A Foundation can be launched even with limited resources. This provides a source of discipline and an incentive to create maximum impact. One way of allowing this is to encourage the involvement of other community actors on a project level: for example, including parents and the better-off in the surrounding community.
