In 2016, the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations and the ESSEC Philanthropy Chair published a selection of 14 short cases from the ERFIP network, drawn from Africa, Asia and Latin America. The report also analyses distinct features of Frontier Philanthropies, including philanthropists tendency to:

• draw upon the distinct skills of their family business
• set up their own initiatives rather than rely on local NGOs
• work with governments to bring their initiatives to scale
